For more than 20 years, Dave Weckl has developed and maintained a reputation
among fans, peers, and the international music community as one of the great
living drummers. For this, he has received numerous accolades and honors;
Modern Drummer inducted Dave into their Hall of Fame and named him "one of
the 25 best drummers of all time."
But these honors, in addition to many more bestowed by the music community,
are the product of Dave's undying commitment to making great compositions.
Dave's incredibly dynamic and diverse drumming, which has inspired musicians
worldwide, is built on a solid foundation of knowledge and respect for
music.
Born in St. Louis Missouri, January 8th, 1960, to a mother who loved music
and a father who played the piano as a hobby, Dave started playing drums
around the age of 8.
During his high school years, Dave received many awards from the NAJE
(National Association of Jazz Educators) for outstanding performances in his
high school's competition-winning jazz band. He was involved with numerous
local groups from a very young age while studying with St. Louis-area
teachers Bob Matheny and Joe Buerger.
At age 16, Dave began to work professionally with local pop and jazz groups.
In 1979, he moved to the East coast to study music at the University of
Bridgeport in Connecticut. At just 19 years of age, Dave was getting
recognized.
While playing the club scene in New York City with a band called Nite
Sprite, Dave started to receive accolades from established studio musicians
such as Steve Kahn, Michael Brecker, and especially drumming great Peter
Erskine. It was Peter who recommended Dave for his first 'big gig' in town
with a group called French Toast, forerunner to the Michel Camilo band,
which has been recorded quite extensively over the years.
From this group, legendary bassist Anthony Jackson recommended Dave for the
prestigious Simon and Garfunkel reunion tour in 1983. After this tour, it
was not long before Dave was regularly being called for radio and TV
jingles, sound track sessions, and top recording dates with such artists as
George Benson, Peabo Bryson, Diana Ross, and Robert Plant, to name a few.

In 1985, Michael Brecker suggested to Chick Corea that he look into Dave's
services for his new Elektric Band. That was the beginning of a seven year
relationship with both the Elektric and Akoustic Bands, where nine
recordings and three videos were produced, including a Grammy for the first
Akoustic Band release.
The Elektric Band showcased Dave's cutting-edge drumming and innovative use
of electronic and acoustic drums, bringing him world-wide recognition.
Though the Elektric Band went on a 10-year hiatus in the early '90s, the
band is once again touring from time to time. It also released a 17-part
conceptual album entitled "To The Stars" in mid-2004.

As a solo artist, Dave has recorded and produced nine recordings to date,
including GRP/MCA solo releases Masterplan, Heads Up, and Hardwired. In
1998, Dave realized his long-time goal of forming a world-touring band. To
date, the Dave Weckl Band has released five studio records, including:
Rhythm Of The Soul, Synergy, Transition, Perpetual Motion, and Multiplicity.
The band also released its hot live album, LIVE (and very plugged in) and a
compilation of DWB and instructional videos entitled The Zone.
The DWB keeps Dave very busy, but he still enjoys sideman work. Dave
regularly joins guitarist Mike Stern, among others. When off the road, Dave
keeps busy with session and production work at his home studio in Los
Angeles. He also accepts a limited number of private students - and offers
classes through the Virtual Drummer School. Additionally, Dave has many
instructional video/DVDs and play-along packages on the market (see the
"instructional" dropdown menu at the top of the page).

A constant student of the art of drumming and music, Dave gives back every
chance he gets through clinics and classes all over the world. Of teaching,
Dave says:
"It is my goal to inspire as many young (and not-so-young) people as
possible to want to play music, whether it be on drums or another
instrument. With all the negatives in the world today, I feel this is my way
of contributing a positive action toward spiritual happiness, which music
can be a big part of, if you let it. So parents, if your child has a talent
for music, please allow them the opportunity to develop that talent!"
Of course, a guy this busy does need to get around town efficiently. A fan
of automobiles, Dave stays on schedule by driving a 440 horsepower
Lingenfelter Camaro (read about it here). With a 0-60 time of 4.2 seconds,
you're not likely to see him out on the L.A. highways - but you're bound to
hear him!
It's a drummer thing...
But beyond all the recording, producing, touring, teaching, working with
companies he endorses to build better products, and tearing up the highway
every now and then, Dave's passion is spending quality time with his
daughter, Claire, Sophia (his Golden Retriever), and friends.
This is what all the hard work is for - the inspiration to keep doing it -
and that perspective is probably Dave's biggest asset.

Susah banget nyari referensi tentang Java Jazz di internet...setiap cari Java Jazz masuknya pasti ke situs-situs yang berhubungan dengan Java Jazz Festival.

Suka banget sama group yang digawangi oleh Alm. Embong Rahardjo, Indra Lesmana, Mates, dkk.

Nonton mereka tampil di Jak-Jazz keren banget...om Embong emang maennya asik banget...ampe sekarang belum nemu yang warnanya kaya dia....liat di wikipedia tentang om Embong miskin banget infonya...malah cenderung ngawur...masa dibilang penyanyi jazz...agh sudahlah...selain wartajazz, kayanya masih minim info ttg musisi jazz dalam negeri...

Embong Rahardjo (26 Januari 1950-30 November 2001) merupakan penyanyi jazz berkebangsaan Indonesia. Embong pernah trgabung dalam sebuah grup yaitu Wong Emas, Jakarta All Stars, Bhaskara, dan Java Jazz. Bersama kelompok yang berbeda, Embong beberapa kali tampil di hajatan jazz dunia North Sea Jazz Festival di Den Haag, Belanda.
Dia memulai rekaman bersama Maryono dan Bubi Chen sejak 1972.

Ini live yang paling keren om pernah lihat dalam bentuk rekaman...ketika om Lee Ritenour datang di Jak Jazz pertama di tahun 1988, langsung nyari-nyari kasetnya... temen om Yunian punya kakak, mas Ari yang ternyata punya banyak banget kaset referensinya...mesen ke bokap malah dibeliin Laser Disc yang GRP Super Live...agh!

Untung minggu kemaren ada kiriman yang ditunggu-tunggu, om dikirimin CDnya ama om Inyong....thanks berat ya om, upahmu besar di Surga.

New York Voices is the Grammy Award winning vocal ensemble renowned for their excellence in jazz and the art of group singing. Like the great groups that have come before, such as Lambert, Hendricks and Ross, Singers Unlimited, Manhattan Transfer and Take 6, they have learned from the best and taken the art form to new levels. Their interests are rooted in jazz, but often Brazilian, R and B, classical, and pop influences are included with equal creativity and authenticity. The group was formed in 1987 by Darmon Meader, Peter Eldridge, Kim Nazarian, Caprice Fox and Sara Krieger. By way of explanation, Darmon, Peter, Kim and Caprice attended Ithaca College in NY and were part of an invitational alumni group formed to tour the European Jazz Festivals in the summer of '86. As a result of this exciting experience, the idea of forming a professional group was born. In 1989 they would sign their first record deal with GRP Records and release their self titled debut album, New York Voices. The group received rave notices and quickly received domestic and international recognition in the Jazz World. From '89 to '94, they released four total CDs on the GRP Label, Hearts of Fire, What's Inside, and The Collection. While recording for GRP, they underwent personnel changes. In 1992, Sara Krieger retired her chair, and after auditioning over 60 vocalists from all over the U.S., the group found Lauren Kinhan. There was an immediate chemistry in fit and sound, allowing the group to make a quick transition and become the "new" New York Voices. Lauren's first musical contributions can be heard on NYV's third CD, What's Inside, released in May of 1993. In early 1994, Caprice Fox left the group, forever fixing NYV as the quartet it is today. Besides their own CDs, NYV has made many guest appearances on recordings and live performances that have earned them critical acclaim and demand in a variety of musical settings. You can find their performances on such CDs as the Grammy Award winning, Count Basie Orchestra with New York Voices, Live at Manchester Craftsmen's Guild (MCG Records), the Latin Grammy Award winning, Brazilian Dreams with the great Paqito D'Rivera, the contemporary classical, The Ancient Tower (Robert Lepley - EarthBeat Records), Heirs to Jobim (BMG Records), Don Sebesky's, I Remember Bill (BMG), Jim Hall's, By Arrangement (Telarc), A Love Affair - the Music of Ivan Lins (TELARC), Irving Berlin's, Louisiana Purchase (DRG), and many more. They have had the pleasure of performing with a number of influential jazz artists including Ray Brown, Bobby McFerrin, Nancy Wilson, George Benson, Jon Hendricks, Annie Ross, the Boston Pops, Diana Krall, Paquito D'Rivera, and many more. In early 1997 they traveled down a different road, paying tribute to a contemporary composer which produced, New York Voices Sing the Songs of Paul Simon. They explored and used a variety of styles to express new turns on this singer/songwriter's rich songbook. In late 2000, New York Voices completed their sixth CD entitled Sing, Sing, Sing. After many years of performancing with the Count Basie Orchestra, the group wanted to address the great Big Band song book and offer their own take on it. With Darmon doing the lion's share of the vocal and big band arrangements, they hired the producing talents of Elliot Scheiner (Manhattan Transfer, Steely Dan, Fleetwood Mac) to capture the music and mix it with his exquisite precision and care. Other guest band arrangers are the great Micheal Abene and Rob Mounsey. Sing, Sing, Sing was released in early 2001. As reviewed by Don Heckman of the LA times, "The title track quickly lays down what to expect from the balance of the program: complex, interwoven vocal lines, interactive improvising and brisk ensemble accompaniment. And revivalist swing fans -- both players and listeners -- would do well to check out the Voices' capacity to bring a contemporary quality to classic material without sacrificing the essence of either."In recent years, they have been called upon by the Boston Pops to bring a new edge to the Pops Orchestra scene. They have a full program of Big Band Swing arrangements that they have toured with the Boston Pops and many many other symphonys all over the United States. They also have a program of music from the Baby Boomer period. You are likely to hear music from the Beatles, Joni Mitchel, Stevie Wonder, the Mammas and the Papas and the Carpenters, to name a few. In 2005 they created a spectacular Christmas program with the Boston Pops and did an extensive tour with them all over the Eastern Seaboard and Central U.S. The Boston Pops continue to play an important role in their creative life with more projects in the works.In 2006 they began shaping a new NYV studio CD. You can expect to hear a group going back to it's roots; a brazilian tune next to a swing tune, and sprinkling their original compositions throughout. Look for that on the MCG Label in the Late Summer of 2007.NYV has traveled the globe with their elegant music, amazing audiences the world over with their impeccable voices and stunning arrangements. They have appeared on the stages of Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, The Kennedy Center, The Blue Note (Japan, NYC), The Austria Opera House, The Zurich Opera House, and the list goes on. They have been seen at the many jazz festivals including the North Sea Jazz Festival in Holland, The Montreal Jazz Festival, and the New Orleans Jazz and Blues Heritage Festival. Along with their extensive concert performances and recording dates, NYV also works in the field of education, giving workshops and clinics to high school and college music students. Jumat : mau berangkat jam 14.00, egh malah ketiduran gara-gara cape bersih-bersih rumah...berangkat berdua Audy [ponakan om] akhirnya sampai di lokasi jam 16.10, langsung ke Jeff Lorber dengan Eric Darius yang sangat lincah kaya dakocan hehehe , trus ke Sarah Gazarek [klik] , untung saja 2 pertama ini tidak mengecewakan...malah boleh saya bilang Sarah ini halus dan enak banget...disamping itu skill individu bandnya sangat mendukung banget...piano mannya keren...bassnya juga ok banget...drumnya? superb! , dari sana langsung ke Lee Ritenour, dewa gitar fusion ini udah beberapa kali ke Jakarta, tapi gak tau kenapa penampilan klimaksnya om dapat pada saat Jak Jazz 88 [klik], saat itu sound OK, formasinya mantap banget, dari Phil Perry, Lee Ritenour, ujan di Ancol ga masalah  , trus mo liat the legend Steve Gadd and Joe Sample, langsung maju ke paling depan, dimulai dengan masalah gitar virtual Ray Parker Jr., om langsung drop liat mereka, dan om tinggalkan si Audy disana untuk menuju Kurt Elling...dan gak salah...memang om [NYESEL1] banget gak milih dia pertama daripada Crusaders! ...mukanya bengal...mengingatkan pada Jamie Cullum, pertama ke Jakarta dan katanya bakal balik lagi!! mantap! energic! penuh improvisasi!  darisana baru ke om Bobby Caldwell yang bikin klimaks turun....mungkin pertimbangan buat panitia, kalau model-model Bobby dan James plus Babyface, posisi duduk lebih nyaman kali buat om-om dan tante-tante yang udah manula dan kakinya udah ga ku ku hehehe...sementara si Audy om suruh ke Earth Wind & Fire...[berbahagialah dia karena dapat paling depan dan seru katanya] dari sana langsung pulang...sampai sekitar jam 2 pagi...

jam 04.00 ke bandara nganter sodara.....

jam 10.00 pagi ke Pamulang, dari Cipinang...

jam 14.00 berangkat lagi dari Pamulang menuju JHCC

Sabtu : jam 16.00 sampai langsung ngadem ama Audy di Bambang Nugroho, nonton si Imel yang ternyata maen piano juga, kalo gak salah dia juga maen di Benny Likumahuwa, langsung....mantap! formasi Bambang Nugroho dan Octagon ampir sama dengan Bhaskara, darisana mau ke Dwiki tapi lebih deket ke Nial Djuliarso, si Audy om suruh ke Tetsuo Sakurai biar dapat di depan. Nial [klik]  ini asik banget...om liat ada Rio Moreno maju ke depan pengen liat si Nial, sayang memang sedikit berisik di ruangan Merak ini....trus jam 19.00 om ke Jubing [klik] , lebih trenyuh lagi, gitaris handal kita maen di Massima yang open area gitu, panitia tega banget...wong om Jubing ini kan gitar akustik, masa di open air gitu...mana tempatnya panitia banyak yang gak tau pula....tega!  20.00 bini nyusul karena pengen nonton Manhattan Transfer, Audy om tugaskan nonton Kazumi Watanabe dan West Coast All Stars, kelar Manhattan Transfer bini ngajak pulang...hayaaahhh kejadian Jak Jazz datang jam 20.00 trus 20.30 minta pulang terulang lageeeeee nasip...nasibph~![NYESEL 2]

jam 23.00 pulang menuju Pondok Cabe antar Audi...

jam 12.00 sampai Harmoni, minum teh bentar....lanjut pulang ke arah Cipinang...sampai rumah jam 01.00 langsung bleg...tidur....

jam 08.00 Olas sekolah minggu...

jam 14.00 berangkat ke Senayan....

Minggu : jam 15.00 udah sampai langsung ke Steve Oliver [klik] ....ciamik...paling demen kalo nemu ginian..[NYESEL 3] aja gak ikutan klikniknya ....trus mampir ke Jakarta Broadway Singers, ada Helena Nanlohy dkk, vokal ok...kadang sound system feedback ngik! tapi kualitas vokalnya ok...kayana mereka mo mentas tahun ini...bingung milih Dhaffer/Bhaskara/Jody Watley, om ngacak jadinya sebelum nyangkut di TRISUM....woaaagghh....gananasszzz! dari 4 kali om nonton Trisum, 2 kali plus balawan, 2 kali minus balawan..kayanya ini yang paling asik, meski gitar di bontot dan budjana kedengaran gak stereo...solo si sandy justru ok banget...stereo, pemaen biolanya Mr. Lamiri juga nggilani...Indro lumayan tapi ketutup ama gitar si bontot yang dominan sekali, mungkin setting soundnya musti di bagusin lagi, sayang memang...di album Trisum juga rekamannya agak gak balance gitu

jam 18.00 mulai masuk masa-masa bingung dan kaki pegel dan fisik mulai terkuras....mau ngadem di Dian PP egh...malah lama bener, mo nonton 5 wanita malah nyasar ke Marc Antoine dan Brian Simpson, lumayan enak denger mereka...tapi gak lama kemudian om ngabur ke Om Bubi Chen dan setelah itu langsung pulang....

semoga tahun depan om gak kmarukas...mo nonton semuanya... padahal hari pertama dan kedua udah disipling as per schedule...tapi pas hari ketiga pengen semuaaaaa, malah blank.....gak enjoy...
